Judge

Julie Ewington Curatorial Manager, Australian Art at Queensland Art Gallery/Gallery of Modern Art. She specialises in contemporary Australian art across all media and contemporary art from Southeast Asia. Julie has held curatorial positions at Queensland Art Gallery/Gallery of Modern Art since 1997, at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney between 1994-96, and at Canberra School of Art Gallery from 1989-1994; for many years before that she taught art history in Australian universities and in 1999-2000 was Visiting Fellow, Centre for Cross-Cultural Research, Australian National University.

Overview

  • This is an acquisitive Prize. The winning work will become part
    of the Caloundra City Collection
  • Entry fee is $25.00 per artist
  • The Prize is open to all Australian artists
  • A pre-selection committee will choose 40 artists to enter a work
    for the Prize
  • The Residency is for 4 weeks at Arley Farm, Maleny
  • The Residency must be taken with 12 months of the Award

The Sunshine Coast Art Prize is a national contemporary painting and 2D art award. It is an initiative of Sunshine Coast Regional Council and principal partner Sajen legal.

The winner will receive $15,000 plus a 4 week residency in Maleny on the Sunshine Coast Hinterland to the value of $5,000.

There is also a non-acquisitive people’s choice award valued at $2,500 that will be announced at the end of the exhibition.

The award is open to all Australian artists working in any 2D medium. Participants will be selected from entries submitted to the pre-selection committee.

The exhibition will be held at the Caloundra Regional Art Gallery, from 20 August to 5 October 2008. The winner will be announced at the Gala Launch and Announcement 6.30pm 28 August 2008.

All works in the exhibition will be for sale, and the Friends Regional Gallery Caloundra Inc will deduct a 25% commission from the sale.

  • Late May/ Early June: 40 selected artists invited to participate
  • 4- 19 August: Artwork to be delivered to Caloundra Regional Art Gallery

  • 20 August: Exhibition opens to public
  • 6.30pm 28 August Official opening and winner announced
  • 5 October: Exhibition closes
  • 6 and 7 October: Artworks to be collected
